"hawk"
We have a big hawk that likes to sit on the powerlines in our backyard. One afternoon last week I held Beck up to the kitchen window to show it to him, unsure if he'd even be able to spot it. Oh boy did he! He LOVED it and watched and watched. It flew away and he got so upset. He cried and said, "hawk, hawk, hawk" and kept wanting me to hold him up so he could see if it were there. He even tried signing "More Hawk."
We see our hawk on and off.
Yesterday we went outside to leave for a walk and Beck starts saying "hawk." I look up and the line is empty, so I tell him, "no hawk right now, Buddy." He is very insistant and keeps saying "hawk" and pointing. Finally I look, and way off out in the field between us and the senior housing there is our hawk on the tip of a tree. A tiny little dot out there. I can't believe he could spot that! It took me 5 minutes to help Q locate it, and she has eagle eyes for spotting nature. I had to run in and grab the camera so I could show Matt his find.

Then today we parked at school. Beck is rear-facing in his seat and he starts yelling, "HAWK!" and pointing. I turn around to see this:

Around Here--Beck edition.

Tuesdays....he gets excited when it's time to go to the nursery, but best of all he comes running to me yelling, "MAAAAAMA!" when I come pick him up! Then tries to climb the gate....

Sorry, Son.
Last Wednesday morning it was warmish at our house. I know, because Beck and I rocked on the back porch swing while he drank his milk. Then we all loaded up to take Q to school. It is always way freezing-er at her school. By the time we got there it was CHILLY and I hadn't brought Beck a jacket. It was my morning to do some photos, so we were going to be there a while. Q and I raided her cubby and got him some warm clothes. Unfortunately all she had was rather pink......but the little guy doesn't know his colors and was just happy to be warm.

Q and all her friends thought it was so funny and started calling him "Little Sister." Beck had no clue and was just happy to be playing with the big kids. :)

His first bug.
Beck made his first catch! He caught a cicada last week. Q was resting, so he got first dibs on this bug. I showed him how to put it in his bug box.
He wanted to open the door.
Shut the door.
Put the bug in.
Take the bug out.
Drop the bug.
Recatch the bug.
Suffice to say, poor cicada did not survive all the fun. But it was a bit "under the weather" to start with, thus the reason Beck was able to catch it. His bug-catching skills aren't quite as well-honed as his sister's yet.

Since then he's enjoyed holding some other bugs Q and I have caught for him, and Q's been trying her best to catch him an annule. She has to get two, because of course the first one goes into her bug box. And for the record, there is rarely an annule in sight that escapes her hands--she's pretty amazing at catching them. And VERY persistant!

Around here, outside edition

Matt's promised me a working outdoor sink since we've moved in and it's waiting for the house re-plumb to happen. He did decide to go ahead and hook this one up to the garden hose since we are spending so much time playing in the mudpie kitchen lately. The kids LOVE it! Good job, Daddy! Quinn has been washing dishes like crazy!

Q also asked for a garden of her own "with only flowers, not any vegetables" so Daddy made her this one and she got to pick out a few flowers over the weekend.

And Alie got a haircut from Momma. No matter how bad it looks initially it grows out enough in a week or so that she's presentable. :)
