Quinn turned 17 months last week.
She wants to ride EVERYTHING. The dog, the garden boxes, the ottoman at Mimi's, the cat, the wood pile, and most recently, the kayak. I think her little taste of riding Mooey the cow mighta gotten her hooked. See--daddy, she needs a pony! Papa John was telling me last weekend that he has a friend that owns miniture horses and to let him know when Q was big enough and he'd take her riding. Later that night she got on the ottoman and started riding it and making it rock like crazy. I tried to teach her how to put one arm up in the air like a bullrider. :) Anyhow, I told Papa John that she just might be ready for those mini horses. :) She also has a little wooden bike that you push with your feet at their house that she loves riding. Except when she runs over her own toes. Maybe we need to take her to the rodeo!!
So back to the kayak. That is her newest and most favorite word. Probably because she can emphasize the "kkkkk" sound on the end. She can also say backpack, church, bite, God, pie and Travis now. She will repeat just about anything you say like a little parrot!
Her two favorite songs are "Ring Around the Rosie" and "Baby Bumblebee" which Oma taught her when she was here. You can often hear her singing "ashes, ashes" to herself. She LOVES if you will hold her hands and sing the song, but she doesn't want to fall--just watch you do it. She loves to hear Baby Bumblebee and do the actions, especially the part where you spit on your hands. If you ask her what a bee says, she will tell you, "beeeeeeeeee!" Her favorite book at Papa John's is her bumblebee book and she could listen to him reading it about a hundred times each visit!
She will listen to you read the actual words of most of her stories now. For a long time we had to do the abridged edition to keep her attention, but she likes to hear the actual story, as long as it's pretty quick-moving.
She loves to hide and jump out at us or play peek-a-boo. She will stick her head around a corner and say, "BOOoo!"
I hear that on Tuesdays when she is in the nursery while Momma goes to Bible Study that she has adopted Ms. Shelley as her personal book-reader. Every week I get their grand total count of how many books they read!! I think she also likes that Ms. Shelley understands her signs and is even teaching her a few more!
She can open the french doors at Mimi's....yikes.
She tries to put her own socks and shoes on, and especially loves putting on anyone else's shoes....grown ups or kids. At her Valentine party she wore around every other child's shoes. She would just take a pair to one of the mommy's and they would put them on for her! No shoes are safe with this girl around!
She likes to eat tuna and salmon from the little pouches. Matt and I think it's not that good tasting, but I bought some for her to try and she loves it! Grandsue introduced her to apple pie last week, hence the acquisition of this new word! She loves pie!! She has also become obsessed with crackers. She asks for them all the time. She is doing pretty well at feeding herself. She can feed herself yogurt, oatmeal and applesauce with her spoon....depending on her mood as to how much gets on her face and the table and the chair.....but she has gotten pretty good in the last couple of weeks!
We had our first bloody mouth incident when she fell off one of the kitchen chairs she was standing on. Ouch. Cuddles and ice chips seemed to fix it right up, though.
She has started interacting on phone calls now! We like to call Oma and she asks Quinn questions and Quinn will talk back! So exciting! Quinn also takes matters into her own hands and calls Wyoming herself if we don't do it for her. Last weekend we were getting ready for church and we heard a man's voice in our bedroom. Matt went in and Quinn had called Opa on Matt's cell phone.
She is apparently going to be a coffee drinker. She asked for some of Daddy's coffee on Saturday. Matt let her taste it, thinking she wouldn't like it. Wrong. She liked it and kept asking for more.
I taught her how to carry dirt from the compost to my garden boxes in a little spade. She did really well at it! Be still my heart. :) She also likes pushing her little wheelbarrow around outside and hauling pinestraw for Momma to mulch with.
She loves putting her money in the collection plate at church, as long as it doesn't take too long to get down the row to us. If so, she wants to eat her money.
Here is her newest activity--screaming when she doesn't get her way. Argh.

Anytime you want her to go one way, she wants to go the other!!!

And we pretty much keep that sweet face decorated in kitty scratches. All highly deserved.
